About internal glass balustrades
An internal glass balustrade replaces spindles or a solid wall on a staircase, landing or mezzanine with toughened laminated glass, so light and sightlines run through the whole stairwell. Full details on internal glass balustrades.
Internal glass balustrades for Hertfordshire properties
Homes in Hertfordshire take in Arts and Crafts houses in Letchworth, garden-city homes in Welwyn and commuter semis in Watford and St Albans. That variety matters for glazing: an opening in a solid Victorian wall is prepared differently from a stud partition in a newer house, and we plan for it at survey. We also work for local businesses, including offices in Watford, Hatfield and Stevenage.
Cost and lead time in Hertfordshire
As a guide, internal glass balustrades typically cost £280–£520 per metre run plus VAT, supplied and fitted, with a minimum job of about £900. Your fixed price comes after the survey. We cover every AL, SG, WD, EN, HP, CM postcode in Hertfordshire. Once you approve the drawing, lead time is around 3–5 weeks from survey.
Building Regulations and safety
Guarding must meet Approved Document K for height and loading. In a house, guarding on stairs, landings and internal floor edges is generally at least 900mm high; in offices and other buildings, landings and mezzanine edges generally need 1100mm. Laminated glass keeps the barrier in place if a pane breaks.
