Internal Glazing

Sliding glass internal doors

A sliding glass internal door runs along a track above the opening instead of swinging into the room. It saves floor space and suits openings where a hinged door would clash with furniture, worktops or another door.

Where they work best

We most often fit sliding glass internal doors in utility rooms, en-suites, compact hallways, kitchen openings and home offices. At the survey we'll look at the light, the way the space is used and the structure around the opening, and suggest a layout that works for it.

Building Regulations and safety

Door glass is safety glass throughout. A pocket door needs a stud or new cavity wall, and we confirm what your wall allows at survey.

How the job runs

We survey and measure, send a drawing and a fixed written price, then make your glazing to order — lead time is around 4–6 weeks from survey. On the day, floors are protected, the frame or track is fixed, the glass is set and sealed, and the space is cleaned before handover.

Questions about sliding glass internal doors

Do sliding doors seal like a hinged door?

Not quite — a surface-mounted slider leaves small gaps. Brush seals help, but if you need sound control a hinged or pocket door with seals is better.

Can a slider go on a plasterboard wall?

The track needs a solid fixing, so we add a timber header or fix into the structure above the opening.

What is a pocket door?

A door that slides into a cavity inside the wall, so it disappears when open. The wall beside the opening is rebuilt around a pocket frame.
