About steel-look internal screens

A steel-look internal screen is a glazed partition with slim, usually black, glazing bars — the look of an old factory window, made for the inside of a home. It divides a kitchen from a living space, or a hallway from a lounge, while daylight carries straight through. Full details on steel-look internal screens.

Steel-look internal screens for Herefordshire properties

We regularly work in black-and-white timber-framed cottages, farmhouses and Georgian town houses around Herefordshire. In older homes we scribe frames to walls that aren't plumb; in newer ones it's usually a case of finding the studs and services before we fix. On the commercial side, much of our Herefordshire work involves small offices and rural business units around Hereford and Leominster.

Cost and lead time in Herefordshire

As a guide, steel-look internal screens typically cost £550–£900 per m² plus VAT, supplied and fitted, with a minimum job of about £1,800. Your fixed price comes after the survey. We cover every HR postcode in Herefordshire. Once you approve the drawing, lead time is typically 4–6 weeks from survey sign-off, with fitting usually done in a day.

Building Regulations and safety

Glass in walls within 800mm of the floor, and in doors or within 300mm of a door, is a critical location under Approved Document K, so safety glass is used throughout. If the screen sits on an escape route — for example the hallway of a house with a converted loft — a fire-rated specification may be needed; we check this at survey.

Questions from Herefordshire customers

How much do steel-look internal screens cost in Herefordshire?

As a guide, £550–£900 per m² plus VAT, supplied and fitted, with the fixed price confirmed after a free survey.

Who fits steel-look internal screens in Herefordshire?

Our own installation team, working to the drawing agreed at survey. The same company quotes, manufactures and fits your glazing.

Is a steel-look screen actually steel?

Usually not. Most are slim aluminium powder-coated to look like steel, because aluminium is lighter, won't rust and costs less. Solid steel is available if you want a heavier heritage section.
