Steel-look internal screens in Cumbria

About steel-look internal screens

A steel-look internal screen is a glazed partition with slim, usually black, glazing bars — the look of an old factory window, made for the inside of a home. It divides a kitchen from a living space, or a hallway from a lounge, while daylight carries straight through. Full details on steel-look internal screens.

Steel-look internal screens for Cumbria properties

Cumbria's housing includes stone-built cottages in the Lake District, Victorian terraces in Carlisle and Kendal, and barn conversions. Whatever the age of the property, we check the floor, walls and ceiling before anything is made, because internal glass is only as good as the opening it fits. On the commercial side, much of our Cumbria work involves offices in Carlisle and industrial sites around Barrow and West Cumbria.

Cost and lead time in Cumbria

Expect roughly £550–£900 per m² plus VAT for steel-look internal screens, fitted. Size, glass type and doors move the figure most, and the survey gives you an exact fixed price. Survey slots across Cumbria (CA, LA) are usually available within a week or two, and lead time is typically 4–6 weeks from survey sign-off, with fitting usually done in a day.

Building Regulations and safety

Glass in walls within 800mm of the floor, and in doors or within 300mm of a door, is a critical location under Approved Document K, so safety glass is used throughout. If the screen sits on an escape route — for example the hallway of a house with a converted loft — a fire-rated specification may be needed; we check this at survey.
